More Capitol Christmas

Although I hadn't planned on stopping by there last night, I made a quick stop again at the Arkansas State Capitol building. It was perfect timing, dusk was quietly settling and the light in the sky looked great. Luckily I had my camera with me, and I rushed out for quick shot.

The Capitol flagpoles were at half-mast in honor of Pearl Harbor...

Capitol Fireworks

The Arkansas State Capitol can be trusted to put on a nice show every Christmas, especially if you want to take pictures. The Little Rock Christmas parade ends at the building, which then has a little ceremony where they turn on the 300,000 lights on the capitol building. After that, a fireworks display caps the end of the night.


They should be commended for their effort, though the entire event is cheesy. Two local news personalities are the emcees, who trade remarks that are a mixture of dorky and awkward. But at least the fireworks are nice. I've been out here the past two years, and this time decided on finding a new location to shoot from. I set up in front of a large fir tree, which the state decorates with 45,000 lights.


My plan was to get the tree, the capitol dome and the fireworks all in one shot. When the fireworks started going off I realized that I didn't have the best spot to shoot from, but couldn't move since the capitol lawn was too crowded. I tried to get the best I could. This is part of the big finale:

Semi-finals

I was finally able to leave work early enough on Friday to make the two and a half hour drive to Charleston again, in order to catch one more football game. The Charleston Tigers were playing against Lamar, and the winner of this game would go on to the state finals.


It was way too cold out, the temperature was about 32 degrees. Lamar would end up scoring first, but Charleston would make a comeback. The drive for the second goal was started after an awesome interception was caught by my cousin.

Charleston won the game, 27-20. So on Friday they will play in the state finals at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. Their opponent for that match, Fountain Lake, won their semi-final against Lavaca with an improbable score of 70-0.

Intergalactic Planetary

Tonight, the moon, Venus and Jupiter all lined up nicely in the sky. I drove out in the cold to get a shot of them hanging over the Big Dam Bridge...


I don't know where Uranus was in the sky, though.

Charleston v. Mayflower

The day after Thanksgiving I stood on the sidelines trying to take pictures of the high school football playoff game between the Charleston Tigers and the Mayflower Eagles (kinda funny that they played Mayflower the day after Thanksgiving). Most of my shots focused on one player for Charleston, because I'm related to him (not because I'm a creepy stalker).





He looks a bit pissed because the other team was coming close to scoring. They'd end up trying to kick a field goal, only to have it blocked.









Charleston won the game 14-6, and will play Lamar next week. The winner of that game goes onto the final game in Little Rock. Hopefully Charleston will make it the state final - that way I only have to drive across town to watch the game instead of halfway across the state.
